PLANS to dress the Long Man of Wilmington as Batman as part of a fathers’ rights campaign have been put on hold following the intervention of a scout.
The New Fathers 4 Justice campaign group had proposed to climb up to the Long Man of Wilmington this weekend to carry out their protest despite pleas by the Sussex Archaeological Society and the site’s self-proclaimed Pagan defender.
But campaigners had a change of heart after receiving an appeal from a member of the Hellingly Scout pack who helped restore the Long Man in 2013.
The youngster told campaigners about the importance of scouting to him at a time when his parents were going through a divorce.
The group have now decided to postpone the protest until late spring when the ground is much harder to avoid damaging the site.
