Pair in fathers’ rights court demo

Tuesday 30 June 2015
Two men, including one from Surrey, blocked the main entrance to the Royal Courts of Justice in London for about two hours by staging a protest about the operation of family courts in England and Wales.

Martin Matthews, 48, of Bookham, and photographer Pete McMurdie, 47, of Looe, Cornwall, said they were members of a group called Stop the War on Dads.

The men said they wanted fewer private hearings in family courts, the introduction of family court juries, more punishment options for parents found to be in contempt of family court orders and fairer treatment for fathers involved in disputes over children.
Mr Matthews chained himself to the main gate of the complex, which houses the Family Division of the High Court, forcing security staff to divert lawyers and visitors to other entrances.
